Position Description

Job Summary and Scope:  Assumes lead Management role in absence of location Manager. Assists the location Manager with day to day operations and oversight of product and materials, equipment, and supplies by directing procurement, receiving, warehousing, distribution services and safety while supervising staff.  Position provides direction that enhances performance and exceeds the expectations of our internal and external customers.  Role is focused on effectively planning, directing and monitoring operations to ensure we offer a competitive service advantage that delivers a high degree of accuracy and customer service at the lowest possible cost.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs job responsibilities in accordance with Veritiv’s Values at all times.
  • Plays an active role in leading the location to achieve revenue and margin targets.  Includes alignment with executing on sales and marketing programs as well as key account management and retention.
  • Develops solutions for customer independently as well as with assigned Sales Rep or Distribution Manager.
  • Safeguards warehouse operations and contents by establishing and monitoring security procedures and protocols.
  • Controls inventory levels by conducting physical counts; reconciling with system data.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local warehousing, material handling, and shipping requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
  • Ensures compliance with company and government policies and regulations (e.g., Safety, OSHA, HazMat, and DOT.   
  • Knowledgeable about safe work practices, policies and procedures and performs all duties in a safe manner.  Active role in ensuring safety program compliance with the objective of an incident/accident free work place. 
  • Maintains receiving, warehousing, and distribution operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures.
  • Completes warehouse operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results.
  • Ensures customer credit policies are followed and adhered to per policy.
  • Maintains physical condition of warehouse.  Includes inspecting equipment, issuing work orders for repair or request for replacement.
  • Active role in location meeting and exceeding financial objectives.  Key focus on executing growth strategies, minimizing expenditures, analyzing variances and initiating corrective actions.
  • Supports Manager with recruiting, selecting, on-boarding and training employees.
  • Performance Management lead.  Role includes coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees, planning, monitoring, and reviewing job results.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge of products and industry by attending trainings, reviewing professional publications and establishing personal networks
  • Meets all internal and external reporting and administrative requirements in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position(s) Supervised:

  • Varies by location and includes key roles including; Warehouse Specialist, Customer Support Specialist and Inside Sales Reps.

Required Skills:

  • PC proficient in Windows based software programs specifically Microsoft Office. 
  • Demonstrated Teambuilder with leadership and interpersonal skills, including but not limited to performance management (employee evaluations, discipline, corrective action, coaching).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential.
  • Strong planning, organization skills
  • Customer service experience required.

Required Experience/Education:

  • Education: High School Diploma / College Preferred
  • Experience: Incumbent must be able to operate Material Handling Equipment including a pallet jack and/or fork lift. 

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • A portion of the job responsibilities will require PC work that involves the continuous use of the fingers, hands, wrists, and sitting for periods of time.
  • Warehouse environment with exposure to noise and potential damage to clothing.
  • Ability to lift heavy loads (50 lbs or more) repeatedly throughout the day.
