Position Description

The inventory management team plays a key role in providing exceptional service to our customers while optimizing investments in working capital and managing total cost.  The Manager, Inventory Management – Print will develop and manage a team of 10-15 buyers inventory coordinators and will collaborate daily with the Inventory Analyst team.  The primary function of the team is to plan and process replenishment orders and other specific transactions in accordance with sourcing strategies and customer requirements defined by segment and FSO stakeholders.  The teams will be located in Norcross, GA.

Specific functions of the buyer and inventory coordination teams include:

  • Planning and execution of replenishment orders
  • Processing direct ship purchase orders and monitoring execution
  • Monitor trends, diagnose root-cause of deviations in key metrics and implement corrective solutions
  • Assist with development of strategies and tactics for balancing operational cost, inventory levels and service
  • Assist with demand planning and forecasting activities for seasonal business and new customers
  • Effectively engage and communication with segment and FSO stakeholders and internal customers
  • Respond to feedback on inventory needs and address service issues and opportunities
  • Manage supplier performance (lead time compliance and lines filled complete on time)

Specific functions of the inventory analyst team include:

  • Participate in creating brand and/or supplier level strategy with sourcing and sales leaders
  • Collaborate with sourcing to optimize total supply chain costs and create differentiated value for Veritiv
  • Assist business development efforts by providing supply chain cost to serve and network modeling input
  • Develop strategies and tactics for balancing operational cost, inventory levels and service
  • Lead demand planning and forecasting activities for seasonal business and new customers
  • Monitor trends, diagnose root-cause of deviations in key metrics and recommend corrective solutions
  • Provide analysis to support supplier performance management

The manager will be asked to foster a collaborative, innovative, and results oriented environment.  The individual will engage and develop effective working relationships with functional counterparts.  Leadership of the team will include coaching and mentoring buyers, inventory analysts, and inventory coordinators on inventory management principles and relevant core competencies.

  • Primary metrics will balance cost, inventory investment, and service (focus on DIOH and fill rates)
  • Lead, direct, train, mentor and manage an effective inventory management team
  • Execution of segment led sourcing strategies consistent with supply chain cost and service goals
  • Input to continuous improvement efforts to maximize efficiency, competitive advantage and bottom line results
  • Process compliance to maintain effective internal control over the product flow and accounting of inventory

Qualifications / Knowledge & Experience:  Briefly describe the knowledge, skills, demonstrated behaviors and experience required for entry into the position/role

  • Strong background in supply chain and inventory management
  • Effective leadership skills to coach, develop, and motivate
  • Ability to use and guide others in the employment of analytical tools (Excel, Access, SQL)
  • Experience in supply chain optimization, hub-spoke strategy, forecasting and statistical analysis
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical, communication and organizational skills
  • Experience in contributing to hypothesis development and data driven decision making
  • Print industry knowledge preferred
  • Bachelors or Master degree in business / engineering or equivalent experience
