Job Summary and Scope:
The Packaging Engineer III position is in place to support Veritiv’s customer’s needs in the realm of package design. The Packaging Engineer II will collect design criteria through design request forms as well as through direct communication. From there design a package to satisfy the ascetics and utility required. Detailed documentation, presentations, or prototypes may all be required to allow internal and external stakeholders to properly evaluate the design. In addition Packaging Engineer I will be called on to analyze quality issues and challenging design criteria situations. There will be a frequent level of cross-functional interaction with team members in design, sourcing, quality, and sales potentially including customers through out the world.
Solicit design criteria effectively
Convert design criteria into an effective packaging design
High authority related to design direction within project scope
Specification documentation, creation, and management
Quality check design documentation`
Ensures design projects are completed on time, within financial target, and to defined project scope (customer requirements)
Continually enhance working knowledge of packaging design, converting and manufacturing
Work with and lead internal teams and suppliers to improve DFM(Design for Manufacturing)
Participate in expert level advisory and technical roles on projects
Mentor less experienced team members for skill development
Conduct on-site packaging audits, specification reviews and concept trials
Advanced testing and analysis; material analysis, drop testing, or other
Maintain inventory of related supplies
Maintain cleanliness and safety of work area.
Work with minimal supervision
Qualifications / Knowledge & Experience:
BS/BAS/BA/BFA accredited university or college in Related Field(Packaging Science, Engineering, Physics, Industrial Design)
5-10 years direct industry experience in packaging design or engineering
Extensive market and supplier related knowledge
Advanced working knowledge of packaging design, converting and manufacturing.
Advanced understanding of performance characteristics of packaging materials to apply properly
Ability to demonstrate advanced use of 2D and 3D CAD programs including Esko ArtiosCAD and Solidworks
Ability to demonstrate proficient use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint
Ability to demonstrate craftsmanship in prototype creation
Working Conditions/Physical Requirement:
Office and Warehouse Environments
Handling heavy packages and equipment.
Use of Material Handling Equipment including forklifts and pallet jacks.
Working at moderate heights.
Requirement for use of appropriate personal protective equipment.
This position will provide input only on equipment maintenance.
