Position Description

Job Summary and Scope:

The Credit Risk Manager II position is responsible for 3 key areas within Credit: Underwriting, Customer Set-up, and Reporting & Analysis. The role involves leading a team of underwriters and analysts responsible for establishing lines of credit for customers, setting up and maintaining customer accounts, and providing monthly and ad-hoc reporting and analysis for senior leadership. The position must also be able to complete & review processes around financial reporting used to support the company’s SEC reporting.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage a staff of up to 30 FTE, made up of supervisors, underwriters, reporting analysts, project management and account set-up staff, with varying skill level and experience.
  • In-depth Risk analysis  including performing P&L, Balance sheet & cash flow analysis, industry analysis and an understanding of accounting to determine customer credit risk
  • Responsible for accurate reporting for various finance reports used for SEC reporting, including bad debt reserve and ABL reporting
  • Design, implement and review customer risk scorecards to ensure process optimization for sound decisions and faster turnaround for evaluating a customer credit risk.
  • Conduct high level meetings with external customers to obtain financials, understand financial and operational challenges that impact the customer’s viability, and discuss payment plans and other high risk scenarios when appropriate. 
  • Lead or participate in finance system integrations as needed, such as Oracle enhancements and/or other prospective tools/systems conversions.
  • Work with both the Internal and external Audit staff to ensure SOX and Audit compliance is met within the various processes for the credit risk teams.
  • Work closely with the credit and collections group to understand customer risk and payment behaviors, as well as collaborate with sales and other groups as necessary.
  • Review customer scorecards for effectiveness vs. current sales climate and be able to make recommendations to adjust the scorecards as needed to deliver the required results.
  • Proactively review the customer portfolio to ensure there are no customers at risk for significant impact in terms of losses to the organization.
  • Responsible for various management level department monthly reporting to drive business results, as well as ad-hoc reporting and analysis as needed for all areas within credit
  • Leads various senior level, corporate-wide monthly calls, including the Credit Risk Council meetings, monthly bad debt reviews, and analysis and review of the Borrowing Base Certificate (BBC) data.
  • Must be action oriented, analytical, and able to juggle multiple projects and deadlines

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 

  • BA in Finance & MBA / MA preferred (Finance or Accounting )
  • 10+ years

CERTIFICATION REQUIRMENTS:

  • Risk related training and scorecard platform skills. Six Sigma or equivalent QUALIFICATION(PREFERED)

Qualifications / Knowledge & Experience: 

  • Candidate must have in-depth knowledge of Credit Risk providers and solutions
  • Scorecard modeling for developing, implementing and maintaining the Veritiv customer risk scorecards as well as the credit hold scorecards.
  • Accounting & Finance knowledge of bad debt reserve methodologies, Credit facilities and Bank borrowing certificate (BBC).
  • Experienced in conducting customer meetings to obtain financial information from varying level of clientele internationally.
  • Extensive knowledge of financial statement analysis.
  • National and International Bankruptcy law experience preferred.
  • Experienced in Project Management / Six Sigma
  • Strong people leadership skills are required

Working Conditions/Physical Requirement:

  • Some travel (up to 40%) for meetings and customer visits

Budget/P&L responsibilities:

  • Assists with the formulation of the department budget
  • Responsible for controlling expenses within Reporting, Underwriting, and Customer Set-up teams

Decision Rights:

  • Credit Limit Approval Authority for the Veritiv customer base to purchase on open terms.
  • Bad Debt reporting & BBC reporting
