Job Summary and Scope:
Support the Transportation function and division in raising the standard of performance in meeting the goals of our internal and external customers. Assist with the operation of the warehouse and delivery system within a division (including shipping, receiving, and inventory control) to ensure a competitive service advantage by maintaining a high degree of accuracy and customer service at a minimal cost.
Oversee day-to-day delivery operations.
Initiate, accurately complete and communicate a variety of tasks (i.e., hiring, discipline, employee issues, etc.).
Must be able to measure employee performance.
Must have knowledge of D.O.T regulations.
Understand and use DMO (Driver Management Online) internet application to manage driver records, transportation safety and compliance data.
Maintain fuel tax, purchases, and licensing for the fleet.
Works with Logistics Manager to reduce or maintain budgetary controls for department.
Communicate changes to appropriate personnel (drivers, routing center, customer service, sales and management.
Conduct safety meetings, perform safety observations and actively participate as a member of safety committee.
Resolve delivery related complaints from customers, drivers, sales and management.
Establish or adjust work procedures to meet schedules to minimize service failures.
Recommend measures to improve delivery methods, equipment and productivity.
Analyze and resolve problems and assist employees in solving work-related issues.
Initiate or suggest plans to motivate workers to achieve goals.
Ride with assigned drivers on a regular basis.
Administer and support all federal, state and local laws pertaining to transportation.
Administer and support all company policies and programs.
May be requested to perform other duties as assigned.
Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, including but not limited to performance management (employee evaluations, discipline, corrective action, coaching), and interviewing are required.
Strong written and oral communication skills are essential.
Strong planning, organization, and customer relations’ skills are required.
A thorough understanding of warehouse, delivery, and traffic operations within a distribution setting, as well as government regulations (e.g., DOT, OSHA, HazMat, etc.). Ability to develop proficiency with company computer system is essential.
4+ years supervisory/management experience or equivalent required, preferably in warehouse operations. Ability to motivate and develop direct reports.
