Position Description

This is an exciting opportunity for anyone interested in gaining experience in process improvement at an industry-leading distribution solutions Fortune 500® company.

This role is responsible for supporting Veritiv’s Continuous Improvement Program (CIP) with the goal of improving productivity across transportation and warehousing activities. This role will expose you to hands on experience in the heart of our operations. Key responsibilities include: assist CIP Facilitators to identify and implement productivity improvement ideas, monitor progress, train others on the program, and work across functions to rally and lead teams in order to solve problems.

Job Responsibilities:

Intern will learn and be exposed to:

  • A worldwide supply chain distribution network of logistics, warehouse, and transportation operations.
  • Project management and process improvement methodology.
  • Collaboration with cross-functional teams (e.g. operations, customer service, supply chain, etc.)
  • Variety of senior leadership within organization.


  • Lead or assist projects from idea generation, through evaluation and approval, to implementation, with the goal of improving productivity and optimizing the transportation and warehousing network.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and prioritize improvement ideas with the management team.
  • Provide program management progress reporting.
  • Support CIP training activities with the goal of improving employee engagement.
  • Assist with special process improvement projects
    • Assist CIP facilitators with analytical tools in the areas of customer stratification, equipment utilization, warehouse slotting, routing, etc.
    • Assist in designing new procedures and methods for operational processes.
  • Develop working relationships with operations, customer service, supply chain and other teams that results in streamlining processes and procedures.

Qualifications / Knowledge & Experience: 

  • Junior or Senior pursuing a BA/BS in Economics, Business, Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics, or related discipline.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Highly motivated, action-oriented individual with strong problem solving, organizational, and analystical skills.
  • Must have good written, listening, and verbal communication skills and be able to communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent presentation skills and able to present large amounts of information using data visualization.
  • Strong MS Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Visio) skills.
  • Some knowledge of process improvement frameworks (e.g. Six Sigma, TQM, Lean, etc.) is preferred.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirement:

  • Although travel may often be infrequent, willingness to travel within the US up to 20% of the time is required.
