Position Description

Job Summary and Scope:  Support customers and Packaging Systems Sales with technical service of Packaging Equipment and related products.  Service may include repairs of Maintenance Systems as required.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs product demonstrations as needed and directed by management.
  • Subject matter expert of Unisource Packaging Systems equipment with the following characteristics -- high-speed automatic, low-speed semi-automatic and manual controls utilizing industry shrink and stretch films.
  • Performs maintenance on case sealing equipment, carton erectors, label printer/applicators, etc.
  • Perform the setup calibration, testing, trouble shooting of circuits, components, instruments and mechanical assemblies using moderately complex blue prints and electrical schematics.
  • Supports systems integration with customers, suppliers, etc., involving complex machine problems and/or turn key systems
  • Performs complex re-builds and re-manufacturers with little supervision
  • Participates in application engineering activities
  • Design and build integrated systems
  • Complete field service work orders, to include parts and other related forms, reports, etc.
  • Perform a variety of sophisticated electronic, mechanical, pneumatic and electro-mechanical tests on equipment, assemblies, sub-assemblies and parts to ensure the equipment functions according to specification or to determine the cause of the failure. 
  • Provides direction for less experienced team members and works without supervision and my supervise the activities of other service technician team members, coordinates work efforts at customer sites, and ensures timely completion of contractual requirements.
  • Other related duties and responsibilities as required or assigned

Skills / Experience / Education Requirements:

  • Individual needs to have good interpersonal skills to work with customer, suppliers and co-workers.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Must have ability to serve as Team leader
  • Communicates well and understands how to use all resources to solve problems.
  • Works well with customers, suppliers, and co-workers in a warm and friendly way.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Can work independently with minimum supervision

    Education:

  • Background should include extensive training in electronics or electrical/mechanical technologies from a qualified institution and individual needs a basic understanding of schematics and electronic theory.

    Major or Specialty Area:

    Equipment and tools used to perform the essential functions of the job:

  • Basic tools to include volt meter, amp probe.
  • Read and understand schematics (electrical and mechanical drawings)
  • Lap top computer with necessary software and cables

    Certification Requirements:

  • Semi-Automatic and Basic Automatic Equipment  (medium & high speed) such as:
  • Advanced Stretch      (ex. Lantech)
  • Advanced Electronics Class
  • Advanced Shrink       (ex. Shanklin, Arpac)
  • Advanced PLC Classes
  • Advanced Tape         (ex. 3M, Loveshaw)
  • Advanced Quality Training
  • Advanced Flow Wrappers     (ex. Ulma, Ameripak)
  • Conveyors
  • Advanced Carton Erectors, Packers, Sealers
  • Turn Key Systems
  • Food contact machinery (Ulma, Marlen, Koch, etc.)

Experience:

  • Has some experience working with machinery
  • Has a basic understanding of electrical and pneumatic controls and valves.
  • Individual needs a basic understanding of schematics and electronic theory with related industry experience six (6 years).
  • Must have good mechanical background including fabrication, welding, machine repair, assembly of machines -- needs electrical skills and knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic controls.
  • Must be capable of machine installation and start-up.
  • Must be capable of trouble shooting problems (electrical and mechanical) to accomplish an efficient solution.
  • Can be required to supervise other market area technicians.

    Working Conditions:

    Physical Requirements:

  • Requires service in the field where there is occasional physical discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise and the like.
  • Overnight and/or weekend travel may be required to attend training or customer service.
  • Must be a licensed driver with the ability to safely travel great distances in a day in an automobile.

    Tests:   

  • Must be able to successfully complete a mechanical/electrical aptitude test as administered by Unisource.
  • Subject may be required to take a basic psychological profile to better understand their ability to interface with customers and employees
